Picture
Above are images of VERY small, microscopic, single-celled living organisms that live in water (rivers, lakes, ponds, and the oceans).  They are commonly called "Phytoplankton".

1. Observing their color - what other type of organisms (living thing) have a similar color? hint: look out the window!
2. These organisms take in CO2 and H2O and using the sun's energy they produce a simple sugar.
  A.  Through what process do they do this?
  B.  The simple sugar that they make provides the energy for the cells of most of the living organisms on Earth - including yours.  What is the name of this simple sugar?  HONORS - what class of carbohydrate is this sugar?

3. Someone asked "How do fish get their energy?"  Use the images below to help you write an explanation.
